Grub Club Dog Food

Grub Club is a new pet food brand on a mission. They wanted to create tasty pet food, which is also hypoallergenic and insect-based. Their dog food is perfect for sensitive tummies, itchy skin and the planet.

That’s why they came to Law Print, as not only did they want their food to be good for the planet, but also the packaging that it is supplied in too! They were referred to us by their pet food manufacturer, whom we already work with, which just goes to show the reputation we have gained within the pet food industry over the years.

We provided Grub Club with two new bags – a small PE/PE mono material Flat Bottom bag with easy open cuts and a single lip zipper, and a large PE/PE Quad Seal bag with a folded bottom. Made in our Ready2Recycle mono material structure, the bags offer sustainable credentials that align with the brand, without compromising the quality of the packaging and on-shelf appeal.

Supply Chain Logistics

Grub Club all started with one mind-boggling fact: 20% of the world’s fish and meat is consumed by our pets. In fact, the pet food industry generates 160m tonnes of CO2 every single year. So Grub Club decided to make a high-quality pet food, with a low carbon impact. How? Insect-based protein. Yep, you read that right. Black soldier fly larvae protein to be exact. The bug of all bugs. The superfood of all superfoods. Because insect protein isn’t just environmentally superior. It’s also hypoallergenic, digestible, palatable and protein filled. With twice as much protein per kilogram as chicken or beef. Plus, insects reduce comparative CO2 emissions by 96%.

We have not only been laser focussed on producing the best pet food we can but also creating a fun and engaging brand the customers can get behind. Packaging is a key platform for our brand’s look and feel, and when working with Andrea and the team at Law Print, we believe we are in the best hands to ensure our product stands out from the crowd!

Hugh Petit – Co-founder

Grub Club have created a hypoallergenic, protein-packed, insect dog food that contains everything your dog needs to be happy and healthy, which is ‘pretty cool’. And to make it even cooler, we helped them transition to fully printed recyclable mono material packaging!

Making this work was a great testament to us, as previously Grub Club had been using digital printing for their bags, but they knew that it was time to go big or go home! So, they have switched to rotogravure printing process for the larger print runs they now require and we are happy to support their growth.

Rotogravure printing is the only high-speed and volume print process capable of printing continuous-tone images, ensuring sharp designs and bold colours. As a direct print process, rotogravure printing results in better ink laydown and more consistent print quality. Printing times are quick, with modern presses able to produce up to 14 metres of film per second. Rotogravure cylinders are extremely durable and can be used for several print runs, when maintained and used on a regular basis. Top notch printed packaging for top notch pet food!

Flexible packaging is an excellent tool for businesses looking to move to more sustainable sources whilst keeping the same format and options available for their customers. Recyclable PE/PE bags can still be printed in Rotogravure process, which was perfect for Grub Club and the effective design the brand has gone for. Crispy white, strong black, bold blue and pink colours to stand out beautifully, and the whole bag is topped off with a soft glossy finish to give an overall high quality result.

Flat Bottom Bags offer an outstanding on-shelf presentation and a stable base for lighter-weight products. They require less material than the more traditional quad seal format. The packaging structure also utilises space more effectively, allowing for the same volume of product. With all the on-shelf advantages of printed cartons, flat bottom bags offer a free-standing structure with 5 graphic panels for increased branding.

Working with a start-up brand like Grub Club is always exciting. Creating new packaging means that we need to ensure that not only the bags are fit for purpose but they also meet the customer’s expectations. At a crucial stage in their growth, Law Print took the time to listen to their needs and understand their business ethos. Aligning the packaging formats to the eco-conscious product offering was essential. Our Ready2Recycle range of mono material solutions was just the answer to that, giving the sustainability credentials that the brand required.
