Pets at Home have become the first UK retailer to move their cat litter to flat bottom bags. As focus shifts to packaging optimisation and increasing consumer convenience, we feel that many brands and retailers will soon follow suit.

The latest challenge? To deliver great value-added packaging features and formats for the new Cat Litter range launching in stores.
From our experience in the pet sector, we were able to advise on the most suitable specifications and offer the best features to compliment pack size and format. The range consisted of 6 SKUs, split between the traditional quad seal bag formats and the new addition of flat bottom bags.
The flat bottom or box pouch format has been increasingly adopted by pet food brands and retailers, but Pets at Home are the first UK retailer to adopt the new format in cat litter.
We added a pocket zipper to the flat bottom bags to help opening as well as making the bags easy to reseal. The need for added convenience was also a big requirement, so we introduced a side gusset handle to help the customer easily carry the cat litter from home from store.
Managing production and delivery over the Christmas period is always interesting, but our logistics team liaise closely with the factory and monitor transit to ensure the product is delivered to store on time.
