Symply Pet Food

We’ve been working with Symply Pet Food since 2012, when they first introduced their brand new Canagan range. Since then, we’ve also helped them relaunch Piccolo, further cementing the trust in the relationship we’ve established with them. Naturally, the new Symply bags were no exception!

Symply specialises in pet food, and only uses the very best ingredients money can buy. They have packed all their stunning recipes full of succulent cuts of meat or fish mixed with field fresh vegetables and botanicals. All of their meat and fish is sourced from within the UK helping to support local British producers.

What’s more, they have chosen to only support independent family run pet shops. That is why you will never find their products in supermarkets, online-only vendors or convenience stores. They have stuck by these principles for over 20 years!

The Project

At the beginning of the project, we had to review the whole range from scratch as they required different bag sizes to re-launch. We arranged for test filling with samples and then made trial bags for final sign-off. We also discussed new material specs as they wanted to move towards a more sustainable direction with recyclable packaging.

Symply understands that we all need to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. The PE/PE bags that are used for their pet food can be recycled with carrier bags at a local pet store, supermarket or recycling centre*.

Design and Innovation

Whilst the artwork re-design was taken care of by their long-standing trusted designer, they completely relied on Law Print to advise on new material specs, bag resizing and best print results.

They wanted bags that were colourful and would show off their different dog food formulas. From Puppy to Senior, each has its own special colour which not only helps to distinguish it on-shelf, but makes the whole brand stand out from the crowd.

Pandemic Challenges

The main challenge for Law Print was to try and get the bags printed and delivered on time to meet their launch date at PATS Sandown in February 2020. Little did we know that the pandemic crisis was just around the corner and despite having the bags ready, Symply decided to postpone the launch to a more suitable time in June 2020.

We were confident that the rebrand would be worth the wait, and sure enough, it was and continues to be, very well received!
