We’re redesigning the complete dry dog food range. Can you provide packaging to enhance our new look?

Law Print Pack have been working together with C&D Foods for over 10 years. Over this time, the pet food manufacturer has tasked Law Print with several packaging projects for some of the biggest supermarkets in the UK.

One of the latest briefs from C&D was to help Tesco re-launch their current dry dog food packaging to compete with established brands on the shelf with high-quality retail packaging.

The new pack design broke away from the traditional look for own label branding by introducing a more premium image for their pet food. For the first time in their dry pet food range, Tesco opted to use a spot matt varnish to emphasise certain areas of the design and enhance colours to their full potential.

Law Print was involved from the very early stages of the project, offering advice at pre-artwork meetings. This prompted discussions on how to get the best result from the design concept and highlight print techniques that would achieve this.

“This was crucial for the project as the teams at both C&D and Tesco communicated a tight lead time to reach product launch in October 2017,” commented Melissa Hogan-Knott, Sales Account Manager at Law Print Pack.

“Our early involvement at the concept stage helped to provide technical knowledge and advice to ensure everything from packaging formats to design printability was clear and worked for everyone involved. This reduced lead times, avoided unnecessary delays or costs and ultimately sped up the entire process.”

As the project involved a number of different SKUs, and with the extended range launching across a variety of packaging substrates, colour standards were set by Tesco. Melissa and the team at C&D attended the press proofing to oversee print and production. This also involved using X-Rite technology to obtain Pantone colour readings and ensured colour management was carried out efficiently.
